I am a journalist and a progressive, a duality that infuses my work with a strong sense of purpose. Unlike some of my professional colleagues, I don't pretend to the impossible standard of objectivity, striving instead for truth. I am fair to all sides, part of no political faction, and have an unblemished record for meeting the highest ethical standards of my profession. Yet I believe the best journalism actively seeks to make the world a better place for all people, boldly calling out the liars, cheats, and demogogues. It pursues the broad public interest, which is the essence of the progressive political perspective. My foremost goal is to the speak truth to power and to give people the tools and information they need to be engaged citizens.
